Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge – Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge is located in the Virunga Mountains, nestled among the foothills of the Virunga Massif.
The name “Sabyinyo” comes from the Kinyarwanda dialect, meaning “old man’s teeth,” and the lodge was established in 2008.
The lodge features unwinding stone cottages or suites, each with a large living room, a fireplace, a stylish bathroom, and a private veranda.
These stone buildings boast traditional terracotta tile roofs and polished wooden floors, creating a cozy and unique experience.
Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge is Rwanda’s first-ever community-owned lodge. Discover more luxury accommodation options in Rwanda.
While it is operated by Governors’ Camp as a luxury, world-class gorilla trekking base, ownership lies with the Sabyinyo Community Livelihood Association (SACOLA).
SACOLA was established to manage the revenues created by the lodge and to identify areas or issues that could be improved using the funds.
Each visitor pays a nightly community contribution, and the lodge itself pays monthly rental fees, both of which contribute to socio-economic development.
