Detailed 10-Day Rwanda Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival day
Pick up from Kigali International Airport by your 10-day best of Rwanda safari tour driver guide.
He will drive you to your hotel in Kigali city for the night.
Day 2: Transfer to Akagera National Park
Pick up from your hotel and go on a tour of Kigali city, stop for lunch and after transfer to Akagera National Park arriving in the early afternoon.
You will go on a boat safari on Lake Ihema and after drive to your safari lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Full day game drive
Explore Akagera national park going on game drives at different times of the day with packed food for a picnic lunch for a rewarding and memorable wildlife safari experience.
Look out for the big 5, lions, elephants, leopards, rhinos and buffalos, other wildlife including giraffes, zebras, antelopes, warthogs and different bird species.
Day 4: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
Optional activities for the morning of day 4 include a hot air balloon safari, a game drive and or a guided walking safari.
After any of those activities, you will embark on your long journey to Nyungwe Forest National Park having a stop for lunch along the way.
On arrival, you will settle in and have a relaxing laid-back evening.
Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking and Canopy walk in Nyungwe Forest
Nyungwe forest is home to most of the primate species in Rwanda including the famous chimpanzees, today you will trek the playful apes starting the trek early in the morning and later in the afternoon go on a canopy walk, a whole different way of exploring the thick green forest.
Day 6: Colobus Monkey Trekking in Nyungwe
Among the different primate species in Nyungwe forest, there are the beautiful black and white colobus monkeys which you will be trekking today.
One of the habituated groups of the black and white colobus monkeys in Nyungwe forest has about 200 individuals.
After a briefing session, you will enter the forest in search of the playfully interesting monkeys.
Later in the day, you can take on a guided cultural visit.
Day 7: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Have a breakfast and then start your journey to Volcanoes National Park via Lake Kivu. Arrive at your safari lodge later in the day, check in and have a relaxed evening.
Day 8-9: Mountain Gorilla Trekking and Golden Monkey Trekking
On these 2 days in Volcanoes national park, you will trek the mighty mountain gorillas and the unique golden monkeys.
Both activities start in the early morning and you will be given an hour with the gorillas and the golden monkeys on finding them in the forest.
Additional activities you can engage in after the trekking experiences are guided nature walks, birding safaris or a visit to the Gorilla Guardians village for a cultural tour.
Day 10: End of Safari
Your 10-day best of Rwanda safari tour comes to an end with a transfer back to Kigali and drop off at the airport to catch your flight back home.
