Detailed 5-Day Rwanda Primates Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Kigali – Volcanoes National Park
Pick up from Kigali international airport by your tour guide driver and transfer to Volcanoes national park.
If you arrive in the country early enough, you could take part in a short tour of Kigali city visiting its popular places of interest like the Kigali genocide memorial center.
In about 2-3 hours, you will be at your safari lodge in Volcanoes National Park where you will spend the night.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking
Mountain gorillas in the Volcanoes national park are among the few thousands remaining in the world in the wild.
You will go on an early morning trek in the Volcanoes for a chance of seeing these gentle giants in their natural habitat.
Spend an hour with the gorillas and then return from the Volcano back to the park offices to meet your drive and head back to your safari lodge for lunch.
Later in the day, you will be guided on a cultural visit to Gorilla Guardians village. Spend the night back at your safari lodge.
Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park – Canopy walk
Optional biding safari or visit to the twin lakes on the morning of day 3.
Transfer to Nyungwe forest national park, home of Rwanda’s biggest chimpanzee population.
Have lunch upon arrival at your lodge and after go on a canopy walk above the evergreen lush Nyungwe forest.
One-of-a-kind experience in the whole of East Africa.
Great scenic views of the forest from the top and amazing sights and sounds of the forest resident animal and bird-life. Return to your lodge for the night.
Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking
Nyungwe forest has over 12 different primate species with the chimpanzees the most populous and most commonly sought after.
Early in the morning, you will arrive at the park offices for a briefing and then enter the lush forest to trek the chimpanzee group allocated to your team.
Many other wildlife species to catch your attention as you trek through the forest.
Spend an hour with the playful chimpanzees before you return from the forest for lunch at your lodge and later in day, any optional activity of your choice or just sit back and relax.
Day 5: End of Tour – Kigali
Drive back to Kigali after your breakfast. Depending on your flight time, you can do some craft and gift shopping in Kigali city and then proceed to the airport for your flight.
