Detailed 5-Day Volcanoes & Akagera Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park
After breakfast at your hotel in Kigali city, you will be driven around the city on an exciting tour after which you will drive to Akagera national park arriving at your safari lodge in time for lunch and later in the day, drive out into the wilderness for an early evening game drive.
Day 2: Game Drive & Boat Trip
Akagera national park is the only savannah park in Rwanda. You will go on a game drive to explore the Savannah plains where you will encounter giraffes, zebras, buffalos, leopards, waterbucks, leopards, lions, rhinos, baboons, monkeys and more.
Return to your lodge for lunch and later go on a boat safari on Lake Ihema.
Enjoy the sight of different water bird species, crocodiles and hippos.
Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
You have an option to go on a hot air balloon trip over Akagera in the early morning or check out after your breakfast and have one last game drive as you exit the park to embark on your road trip to Volcanoes National Park via Kigali arriving in the early evening.
You will have your lunch en-route.
Day 4: Gorilla Trekking
Be up by sunrise, take breakfast and drive to the park head office for a briefing after which you will be put in a group of 8 with other visitors and with the lead of a park ranger and other guides, you will go into the forest to trek the mountain gorillas.
In about 2-6 hours, you should be in the presence of the mighty gorillas, spend an hour with them, then return from the trek and drive back to your safari lodge for lunch and later for a visit to the Gorilla Guardian village.
Day 5: End of Tour
After breakfast and check out from your accommodation facility, you will be driven back to Kigali to the hotel or to the airport.
