Mountain Muhabura – Another name for Mountain Muhabura is Mountain Muhavura. The word “Muhabura” is a Kinyarwanda word meaning “The Guide.”

Mountain Muhabura is an inactive volcano in the Virunga Mountains, lying on the borders of Uganda and Rwanda.

It stretches between Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda.

Mountain Muhabura has an elevation of 4,127 meters (13,540 feet) and is the third highest peak in the Albertine Rift, the western branch of the East African Rift.

It is believed to have erupted sometime in the Holocene, although the exact date remains unknown.

The mountain has a prominence of 1,534 meters (5,033 feet) and is listed as an Ultra. Its coordinates are 01°23’00″S 29°40’00″E.

The slopes of Mount Muhabura are clearly visible from Uganda. Mountain Muhabura plays a significant role in the tourism industry in Rwanda and also has biological importance for different plant and animal species.

It serves as a habitat for various wild animals, including mountain gorillas.

The mountain also has a crater that attracts tourists with breathtaking views of Rwanda’s twin lakes, farmlands, and the three Virunga ranges.
