Muhoza Gorilla Family – Muhoza is a gorilla family in Volcanoes National Park. It consists of 22 mountain gorillas, including 1 silverback gorilla, 9 adult females, 4 juveniles, and 8 infants.
Formerly, the Muhoza family consisted of 7 mountain gorillas until Muhoza raided Hirwa and took 2 of its members, increasing its size to 9 members.
Currently, the group totals 22 members. Muhoza is a new gorilla family that was recognized in 2016, named after the Muhoza silverback.
The Muhoza group was initially recognized with only 7 individuals on December 3rd, 2016, when it was formed.
Trekking the Muhoza Gorilla Family
Muhoza is one of the easiest gorilla groups to trek because they are found in the heart of Volcanoes National Park, requiring a short trekking time.
Limitations
- Visitors who are sick are not allowed to trek because gorillas can easily catch diseases like the flu.
