Detailed 3-Day Sabyinyo Hiking Itinerary
Day 1: Kigali – Mgahinga Gorilla National Park Uganda
You will be picked from your hotel in Kigali city by your safari guide and drive to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Kisoro in South West Uganda.
Before setting off, you can opt to take on a short tour of Kigali City.
In about 4 hours, you will be across the boarder in Mgahinga, check in at your safari lodge, settle in and enjoy a relaxed cold evening.
Day 2: Hiking Mount Sabyinyo
The hike to the summit of Sabyinyo volcano takes about 8 hours (ascent and descent).
You will be up very early and have a light breakfast at around 6:30 am after which your safari driver will drive you to the park headquarters for briefing and then you will embark on your hike.
Climbing mount Sabyinyo can be quiet challenging with a very uneven terrain characterized by sharp ridges, craters and thick vegetation but the adventure is so worth it.
At the lower slopes of the volcano in bamboo forest, you might encounter some wild animals and with some luck, spot a mountain gorilla.
Go through the alpine and then you will be at the summit in no time.
Great stunning scenic views from the top of Mt. Sabyinyo including the Lake Kivu and the beautiful island dotted Lake Bunyonyi.
You will be standing at the point of intersection of the border of Uganda, Rwanda and DRC.
Descend the volcano back to the base, drive back to your safari lodge for a relaxed evening.
Day 3: Departure
After your breakfast at the safari lodge, stat your journey back to Rwanda for a drop off in Kigali back at your hotel or to the airport to catch your flight.
