Hotel Milles Des Collines – Hotel Milles Des Collines is a 4-star hotel located in Kigali City, Rwanda. It became famous after 1,268 people took refuge inside the building during the Rwanda genocide in 1994.
The hotel was constructed by the Belgian airline Sabena in 1973, and in 2003, Sabena sold the hotel to MIKCOR Hotels for about $3.2 million.
In 2014, the hotel was managed by Kempinski Hotels and was renamed Hotel Des Mille Collines by Kempinski. However, in 2016, the hotel left the Kempinski chain and returned to its original name.
Hotel Milles Des Collines is a French name, but in English, it is called Hotel of the Thousand Hills.
The hotel is one of the most famous in Rwanda and was an inspiration for the Hollywood movie “Hotel Rwanda,” a film based on true events where, in 1994, European staff were evacuated and manager Paul Rusesabagina opened the hotel to act as a refuge.
